Meet Kim

Kim is a certified natural hair care specialist and instructor, specializing in loc maintenance and styling. She has been doing natural hair and locs for 16 years. She specializes in interlock, microlock and traditional locs. She has also taken the Sisterlock certification course. After doing hair for 13 years, she started her own business called Kinks and Coils in 2020. She has had her own hair loc’d for a total of 22 years. 

What she enjoys most about doing hair is being able to have creative freedom with styling and also establishing trust and friendships with her clients. Some of her clients have seen her 2 children, Aubri and Autumn, grow up since they were newborns, now 6 and 11. One of her fondest memories are of her clients turned friends Brian, Briana and Sharon holding her babies so they would stop crying and she could continue to finish their hair. 

Kim, Alex and Jamenia started Before Anything Else (BAE) in 2021. BAE is a natural hair product line that they use to service their own client’s hair and it’s also available for purchase online. All of their products are natural and/or organic. 

Outside of doing hair, Kim has a BS from NC State University and works in a research laboratory. She has a published journal available on Amazon called The Rebirth, which is a daily interactive journal for healing.  She considers herself a foodie at heart, enjoys traveling, family fun and new life experiences with her kids and her love, John.
